Planning for the Future Workshop Series

When: Tuesday, August 25, 2010 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Where: Angus Glen Community Centre, Activity Rooms 2 & 3: 3990 Major Mackenzie Drive East, Markham, ON, L6C 1P8

What: An opportunity for youth to come away with job search strategies and networking techniques that will benefit them throughout their careers.

Why: Youth will better handle the challenges and situations throughout their careers, including: adapting to life in a post- secondary institution, job search techniques and professional development, budgeting and financial management, and entrepreneurial strategies for ambitious self-starters.

The MYTF’s first ever Answer to Cancer raised over $5000 for the Childhood Cancer Foundation.

Markham Battle of the Bands 2010

The Markham Mayor’s Youth Task Force is proud to present our 4th Annual Battle of the Bands! This is a friendly competition in which YOUTH from all across Markham come to battle it out in hopes of being Markham’s greatest band! The event will take place this year on May 7th, 2010 at the Miliken Mills Community Centre. Doors are open at 7pm. Tickets will be $4 OR $2 with a non-perishable food item, which the Mayor’s Youth Task Force will donate to a local food bank. To add to this event, this year, we have a NEW LIMITED EDITION T-SHIRT that we will be selling for ONLY $8 when you buy your ticket or $10 separately. Click HERE for more info.

Youth Week Kick-Off 2010

Come out to Markville Mall on Sunday, May 2nd, 2010 for the annual Youth Week Kick Off. Gather your friends and get ready for the entertainment of a lifetime! It will be a show full of amazing dancers, singers, beat boxers and rappers. Come out to watch our town’s youth perform, do some fun activities and win lots of free prizes! This year, the Markham Mayor’s Youth Task Force has also organized the ANSWER TO CANCER, which is a component to Kick Off.

Breaking it Right 4- Dance Competition

Come out on Saturday May 8th, 2010 from 5pm-10pm at Milliken Mills Community Centre for the Breaking it Right 4- Dance Competition.

There’s a $2 entrance free.

The first place prize is $150 and second place wins $80.

Mayor’s Youth Award

The MYTF presents the Mayor’s Youth Award! If you’re a student in Markham who is doing something to benefit the community, this is a great opportunity for you! The winners will have an opportunity to meet the Mayor of Markham, as well as a chance to receive a cash award of $300. Applications will be accepted
